How to Treat Thrush & Yeast
*Wash your hands before and after breastfeeding.
*Use paper towels to dry hands and throw away paper towel
*Remove all sugars from your diet. Candida/yeast thrives in sugary environments.
*Avoid fruits and breads until the yeast is gone.
*Keep breasts clean and dry.
*Wear cotton clothing.
*Mom should take acidophilus capsules, along with eating yogurt with live cultures each day.
*Wash nipples with a diluted vinegar or lemon water solution after each nursing
*Dry breasts with a hair dryer after showering.
*Mom should take two garlic capsules 3 times daily.
*Mom should take Echinacea 1000mg daily.
* Pau d'Arco 1000mg daily for mother
*Capriylic acid 2-3 capsules daily for mother
*Use gentian violet on mother's nipples once per day
*Vaginal Monistat for mother
*Oral nystatin drops for baby (prescription)
* Lotrimin AF, Micatin, or Monistat 7 for mother's nipples and for baby's bottom
*Diflucan for mother (prescription)
* After each feeding, wash nipples in a solution of 1 tsp baking soda mixed into a glass of warm water. Rinse it off with a splash of warm water, and let nipples air dry.
* Nystatin cream for nipples
* Rub some baking soda into baby's mouth/tongue area
*All Purpose Nipple Ointment (prescription) Dr. Jack Newman's cream:
100,000 units/ml Nystatin (15grams)
0.1% Betamethasone (15grams)
2% Mupirocin ointment (15 grams)
10% Clotrimazole (vaginal ointment) (15 grams)
*Paint baby's gums, sides of cheeks, tongue with gentian violet once per day
*Grapefruit seed extract 250mg capsules orally three times daily for mother
*Boil bottle nipples, pacifiers, and breast pump parts daily
*Wash bras and cloth breast pads daily
*Hang clothing out to dry in the sun, as sunshine kills yeast
*Wash nipples after each feed, and air dry breasts. Then apply ointments/creams
*Allow baby to go without diaper as much as possible
*Cotton panties for mom
*Rinse outer vagina with vinegar after each bathroom trip
