About the Midwife

Tori Dennis is a Certified Professional Midwife.  Certified Professional Midwives are educated and trained to provide out of hospital maternity care.  If you are interested in homebirth or waterbirth with a midwife, Tori provides free consultations. Tori is licensed in TN as a midwife and homebirth provider through the TN Department of Public Health.  Tori is nationally certified by NARM, the North American Registry of Midwives.  Tori has been a midwife for six years (since 2006).  

Prior to becoming a midwife, Tori earned a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (four year degree) from the ivy league University of Pennsylvania, graduating with honors Magna Cum Laude.  Tori has been a RN for almost twenty years.  Previously, Tori worked as a nurse in the neonatal intensive care.   In addition, she worked in the recovery room caring for women who had surgery, such as c-sections and hysterectomies.  Lastly, Tori worked at a birth center as a RN for three years (assisting in bed births and waterbirths).  All these jobs gave Tori a strong foundation which prepared her well for the intensity of midwifery schooling. Tori trained in El Paso,Texas, at a fast paced independent birth center (doing hands on midwifery skills/bed births).   

In addition to the above background, Tori is a veteran of the United States Army Nurse Corps, where she served as a Lieutenant/Captain at Fort Bragg (as an army nurse). 

Tori's midwifery training (from the first out of hospital birth to the last required birth to complete the certification process) was over three years; Tori had two thousand hours of clinical training.  Tori passed the eight hour written exam and earned the title Certified Professional Midwife through the credentialing agency NARM (North American Registry of Midwives www.narm.org).  Tori is happy to share her licenses, certificates, and transcripts with prospective clients, so you are assured you are hiring a qualified midwife.  

Tori resides near Muscle Shoals airport in Alabama with her wonderful husband of 18 years and her three homeschooled daughters. All her daughters were born with midwives.  Tori nursed all her children; she is happy to help you breastfeed too!
